MFW: Welcome home, JIL SANDER’s second chapter gives minimalism warmth

“Going home” is a gentle phrase, yet it has never had just one meaning. For his second collection at JIL SANDER, Simone Bellotti chose to begin with the idea of “home,” seeing the brand as a house with space, order, and an aesthetic language shaped through years of repeated refinement. This time, he isn’t just putting it in order; he’s letting it breathe.

His sensitivity to furniture, interior textiles, and structure comes from his father’s work in furniture textile craftsmanship. It taught him that spaces can be rearranged, traditions can be followed, rewritten, or left open. This season, JIL SANDER’s signature minimalism is taken further: it is no longer simply about subtraction, but meaningful richness. Lines begin to curve, and fabrics are no longer pressed flat; instead, they are given room to move. The clothes seem to have a will of their own, swaying and folding back with every step to create a more genuine dialogue between the body and the cut.

Soft neutrals form the base, while black, blue, and gray create quiet layers. High-buttoned suits retain their sharp presence, while slits and high back vents make movement part of the design. Accessories continue this same tension: geometric handbags contrast with the body’s curves, shoes shift between exaggerated and form-fitting shapes, and the sunglasses hint at the brand’s upcoming collaboration with Oliver Peoples.

Bellotti’s second chapter does not make JIL SANDER louder; it makes it feel more like real life. Minimalism remains, though it is no longer aloof. Order is still clear, though it allows for contradiction. The lines remain precise, yet now have curves and emotion. Like “home” itself, it has never been a perfect model home, but a place that can hold every state we are in. Welcome home: this is where everything begins and is understood anew.
