“21st Century Queen Consort” unveils its first poster
As the series enters its promotional phase, the first official poster has been released. In it, IU appears as chaebol heiress Sung Hee-joo, poised and confident, while Byeon Woo-seok’s character, Grand Prince Lee An, who is second in line to the throne, stands quietly behind her with a reserved, slightly lonely air.
Dressed in ornate, predominantly white clothing and accessories that incorporate traditional Korean aesthetics, the pair look as though they’ve stepped out of a royal wedding editorial. Standing side by side, they gaze resolutely into the distance, creating the feeling of a “fated couple” and building anticipation for how this royal romance will unfold.
What is “21st Century Queen Consort” about?
What if Korea still had a royal family? That’s the drama’s biggest draw. “21st Century Queen Consort” is set in an imagined modern-day Korea that remains a constitutional monarchy. In this setting, royalty and chaebols, politics and love intertwine to create a romantic world that feels modern with a touch of fairy-tale magic.
In the drama, IU plays a chaebol heiress who has everything, yet is held back by her commoner status and carries a sense of dissatisfaction. Byeon Woo-seok plays a prince who seems noble, yet cannot take control of his own life because of his royal status. When fate brings them together, they enter into a contract marriage. What begins as mutual exploitation gradually turns into real feelings, setting off a love story that is sweet and full of tension.
“21st Century Queen Consort” has a star-studded cast and plenty to look forward to!
Alongside leads IU and Byeon Woo-seok, the drama also stars Noh Sang-hyun and Gong Seung-yeon, who share the same regal air. The tangled relationships among the four characters are sure to be one of the story’s major draws.
The series is directed by Park Joon-hwa, who has helmed works including “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim,” “Alchemy of Souls,” and “Because This Is My First Life.” Known for his nuanced portrayal of characters’ emotions, his blend of romantic-comedy elements, and his beautiful, atmospheric visuals, he makes viewers even more eager to see how the drama will come to life.
