Bang & Olufsen’s Century of Sound exhibition lands in Taipei: 22 classic designs in one go
Design lovers, don’t miss it!
To mark its 100th anniversary, Danish luxury audio brand Bang & Olufsen is bringing its “A Century of Beautiful Sound” exhibition to Taipei. Running for just three days, from August 21 to 23, at PPP in Zhongshan, the exhibition features valuable archival pieces brought over from Denmark and 22 representative works from different eras, taking visitors through a century of B&O’s evolution in sound, design, and craftsmanship.

The exhibition is organized into four themed sections: “A Century Suite,” “Design in Harmony with Sound,” “Factory 5,” and “A Resonance in Time.” On display are the Eliminator, launched in 1926; the Beogram 4000 turntable, which is part of the permanent collection at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); and the iconic Beosound 9000 CD player. The 1950s Mini 508K tube radio and the 1970 Beovision 600 are also being publicly exhibited in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time. Their classic forms alone are enough to make design fans linger.

Alongside the classic products, “Factory 5” brings B&O’s production craftsmanship from Struer, Denmark, into the exhibition space. The brand began exploring aluminum in the 1960s, gradually developing its now highly recognizable metallic finish through precision cutting, polishing, and anodizing. “A Resonance in Time” uses light, shadow, and music to create an immersive experience, tracing the shift from radio and CDs to the streaming era and revisiting how the way we listen to music has changed over the past century.

The exhibition has a cute surprise in store at the end! Inspired by the B&O logo, Beogram 4000, and Beosound 9000, the brand has created three limited-edition egg cakes in special shapes. Complete the designated Instagram task to receive one for free, though quantities are limited each day. Limited-edition “commemorative newspapers” and 100th-anniversary “collector postcards” will also be available. Admission is free, and the exhibition runs for only three days, so consider taking a stroll through Zhongshan this weekend to see these century-spanning classics in sound and design for yourself!
