Taipei’s Xinyi District has another dining destination worth adding to your list! If you love atmospheric bistros and have a soft spot for Italian cuisine, the newly opened Reale Wine Salon at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A9 might be the perfect spot for your next date. Created by Lexuan Catering Group’s Italian restaurant Reale Cucina Italiana, this venue does more than just bring classic Italian dishes into a department store. It introduces a “wine salon” concept, blending art, music, wine, and food to turn a meal into a wonderful way to enjoy life.

Compared to typical Italian restaurants, what makes Reale Wine Salon particularly memorable is its slightly retro interior design. Created by design agency upandcoming, the space features a rich burgundy and blue palette inspired by the vineyard landscapes of Tuscany, Italy. Warm lighting, dark-toned seating, and artwork on the walls create an elegant yet character-filled dining atmosphere.

This is not just a great spot for a date; it’s also a wonderful place to meet up with friends for drinks and conversation. The restaurant specially invited artists to collaborate on the space. The first featured artist, Ally Wang, transformed pasta, ingredients, and everyday dining scenes into art pieces, giving the restaurant the feel of a gallery. As day turns to night, the background music transitions from relaxed funk and chill jazz to more rhythmic house beats, letting the same space showcase different moods.

From truffle cheese wheel pasta to Roman porchetta, you’ll want to order every dish!

When visiting an Italian bistro, the food on the table is naturally what you look forward to most! Reale weaves regional Italian culinary traditions into its menu, offering everything from Venetian street food to Roman meat dishes and traditional handmade pasta. Perfect for sharing, the “Italian Taste Overture” is inspired by traditional Venetian cicchetti, letting you sample six different appetizers at once. If you love rich cheese aromas, don’t miss the “Umbrian Cheese Wheel Pasta with Truffles.” Hot pasta is tossed inside a flame-torched cheese wheel, blending the aromas of pecorino cheese and truffle—just imagining it makes your mouth water.

For a heartier meal, there is the golden, crispy “Roman Slow-Roasted Porchetta,” as well as the “Milanese Veal Cutlet” with its rich northern Italian flavors. Finally, you might want to order the “Amaretto Caramelized Roman Pandoro,” combining crispy caramel with the sweet aroma of amaretto liqueur to give this Italian feast a sweet ending.

Drink without ordering the whole bottle! Nearly 20 wines by the glass and Italian cocktails

A charming bistro naturally needs great drinks. Reale offers nearly 20 red and white wines by the glass daily; whether you want a pairing for your meal or just a casual drink with friends, you can choose according to your mood. The cocktail selection also has a distinct Italian character! The “Opera Trilogy,” inspired by opera composers, includes the Puccini, Rossini, and Bellini cocktails, bringing orange, strawberry, and white peach sparkling flavors respectively. For something refreshing, try the “Jasmine Mei,” which combines Moscato wine with lime, or the “Bicicletta,” made with Campari, club soda, and white wine, to experience the leisurely pace of Italian life through fruity aromas and a light buzz.

Sometimes, all you want is a restaurant with just the right atmosphere to share a meal and a drink with someone you love, slowing down the busy pace of daily life. The next time you are shopping in Xinyi District, add Reale Wine Salon to your list, and find an afternoon or evening to enjoy a date filled with Italian romance!
