The organizers have outlined eight criteria for professional judges: coffee quality and transparency of origin; baristas’ technical expertise and knowledge; customer service and hospitality; innovation and creativity; interior design and atmosphere; sustainability practices; food and pastry offerings; and consistency in service and quality. Judges and head judges are assigned by region, including South America, Asia, North America, and Europe. Their ranks include World Barista Championship judges and champions, roasters, green-coffee buyers, food experts, and more.

The 2026 edition of The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops evaluated 15,000 coffee shops, with roughly 350,000 public votes cast. The United States leads this year’s list with 9 entries, followed by Australia with 7 and Peru with 5. Spain, Taiwan, and Honduras each have 4 entries, while Asia has 14 coffee shops on the list.
