Major format shake-up! “Black and White Chef 3” has started production and is expected to drop within the year
This time it’s not a solo battle, it’s a world made for team fights~
If the first two seasons showcased the heights of “individual heroism” in the kitchen, Netflix is clearly aiming even bigger with Season 3. The latest changes to the format have taken fans by surprise: instead of solo dark-horse chefs, the competition will put an entire restaurant’s strengths to the test.

Why teams of four?
Many people are wondering why “Culinary Class Wars 3” is doing away with its most attention-grabbing individual elimination rounds. The production team explained that true fine dining, or any successful dish, is never the achievement of the head chef alone. Season 3’s switch to teams of four is meant to reflect the professional rapport and assembly-line coordination of a real kitchen. The teamwork of a four-person team will take the competition’s level of execution to unprecedented heights.
Season 3’s eligibility requirements are getting stricter
Joining “Culinary Class Wars 3” won’t be so easy. The official eligibility rules clearly state that each team must consist of four chefs from the same restaurant. The show is not currently accepting individual applications. This means we may see many Michelin-starred restaurants go head-to-head with wildly popular hidden gems with lines out the door, each sending in a full “dream team” to take on the competition. This restaurant-versus-restaurant format tests not only the chefs’ individual skills, but also the trust and chemistry among teammates.Because they are colleagues who work together every day, the kind of understanding that lets them take over with just a look will replace the chaos of the temporary teams in the first two seasons. This time, they are competing not only for personal honor, but for the restaurant brand behind them, making the pressure to win or lose greater than ever.
Season 3 filming progress and release timing
As exciting as the new format may be, everyone will still need to wait patiently. Season 3 is reportedly not scheduled to begin filming until May 2026. As for whether Baek Jong-won and chef Ahn Sung-jae, fan favorites, will return, Netflix has said their involvement is “not yet confirmed.” Given the shift to team and restaurant-versus-restaurant competition, whether the judging panel will include more experts with a business management perspective is also one of the most-discussed topics on Korean online communities.
