Challenging Confucian Taboos
Set in the Joseon era, when desire was considered taboo, the story follows nobles who challenge social norms under a strict Confucian order in a dangerous game of seduction where every move is calculated. The first teaser points to a high level of production, from the intricate hanbok details and the evocative red plum blossoms and bamboo groves to the traditional architecture. More than the erotic scenes, though, what makes “Untold Scandal” so anticipated is the psychological battle among its three leads as they grapple with traditional moral codes and repressed desire.
Son Ye-jin Pulls the Strings, Ji Chang-wook Becomes a Playboy
Beyond its strong production team, the drama’s star-studded cast is its biggest draw. Son Ye-jin plays the intelligent and calculating “Lady Cho,” a noblewoman who appears dignified and courteous but secretly controls this game of love and desire from behind the scenes. It is also Son Ye-jin’s first time playing a character with villainous traits and a dangerous allure.
Ji Chang-wook plays “Jo Won,” Joseon’s foremost playboy, who doesn’t believe in true love but enjoys the thrill of conquest. When Lady Cho challenges Jo Won to seduce “Lady Sook,” a chaste and faithful widow played by Nana, a love triangle filled with danger and temptation begins.
“Untold Scandal” is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix worldwide on September 18, 2026. For fans of high-quality Korean period dramas and romance, this is definitely a series to mark on your fall watchlist. Of the dangerous game brought to life by Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana, whose transformative performance are you most looking forward to?
