“Boyfriend Subscription” is coming to Netflix: How does Jisoo see the “disappointing acting” comments? Her candid answer hurts to hear
Branching out into a new field really isn’t easy!
While many multi-hyphenate artists now thrive across different fields, branching out still puts them under intense scrutiny. This is especially true for BLACKPINK, whose momentum continues to grow. Lisa and Jennie have both appeared on the small screen, and Jisoo, who is equally ambitious about acting, is no exception. From K-dramas to films, Jisoo has continued building her acting career while balancing her identity as an idol singer, and her latest project, Netflix‘s new series “Boyfriend Subscription,” will be released soon.

Since making her acting debut in 2021’s “Snowdrop,” Jisoo has taken on major roles in 2025’s “Newtopia” and “Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint,” drawing plenty of attention. “Boyfriend Subscription” is no exception. Built around the “virtual romance” concept that resonates with a new generation, it stars Seo In-guk alongside Jisoo, with Lee Soo-hyuk, Jay Park, Seo Kang-joon, Lee Jae-wook, and other heartthrobs rounding out the cast. Fans are eagerly awaiting “Boyfriend Subscription.”

Yet because of her fame and identity as a singer, Jisoo’s work as an actress is also subject to heightened scrutiny. At a recent press conference for “Boyfriend Subscription,” a reporter asked Jisoo, “With every project, there always seem to be comments that your acting is somewhat disappointing. How do you take in that kind of feedback, and what have you done to improve?” The question was one fans found a little heartbreaking, and Jisoo responded openly and graciously:
“Every project challenges me with a different role. This time, to show a better side of myself, I met with the director many times and we discussed a lot. Since the character is around my age, I hoped I could make the role feel like a well-fitting outfit and portray her naturally. I put a great deal of thought into it and worried over it a lot. I hope that when people watch this project, they’ll feel, ‘She’s found a role that suits her!’ That kind of feedback would be wonderful.” – Jisoo
