Nam Joo-hyuk has long been known on screen for his fresh-faced, boy-next-door image. For his first project after completing his military service, though, he has chosen a markedly different dark mystery role. He plays the mysterious Gootae, who can move freely between the human and spirit worlds and is tasked with slaying evil ghosts that enter the human world.
The role feels refreshingly new and tests his ability to shift between action and nuanced emotion, drawing his usually sunny image into something deeper and darker. It’s exciting to anticipate the more mature layers of acting he’ll show.
A psychic court lady and a royal family caught up in a curse
Along with Nam Joo-hyuk’s departure from his usual roles, the chemistry between the characters is equally compelling. Roh Yoon-seo, who has delivered standout performances in recent years, plays Saenggang, a court lady who can sense the presence of ghosts and spirits and connect with the spirit world.
