Guang Zai Jin Ding was originally a cluster of Japanese-style dormitories built in the 1930s. After restoration, the wooden buildings retain the marks left by time, adding another layer of warmth to the space. At Frisson, created by founder Ban, music isn’t treated as background; sound is at the core of the space’s design. As jazz, soul, funk, or ambient music drifts through the room, the notes aren’t simply played; they interact with the space, its objects, and the people within it. Here, sound becomes an invisible form of design that quietly changes the way you linger.

The word “Frisson” comes from French and describes a subtle shiver sparked by the senses, perhaps by a melody, a ray of light, or an unguarded moment. This idea is fully realized in the space. Classic designer furniture, audio equipment, and selected objects all center on “sound and life.” From Bang & Olufsen and Devialet to Ballon de Paris, every detail responds to the same question: How can the senses be slowly awakened so that, as the rhythm slows, emotions have room to linger?
When coffee enters this sound-filled space, everyday life takes on a more tangible shape.

This space extends to the sense of taste, too. Frisson has teamed up with Sweet & Sour to introduce Sweet & Sour Coffee Wave, a new line that lets coffee carry on the rhythm. From medium- and dark-roast espresso blends to single-origin espresso (S.O.E.) upgrades and rotating specialty beans for pour-overs, every cup is treated with care. The signature Vienna coffee layers light, fluffy whipped cream with balanced bitter and sweet notes, while the hand-whisked matcha au lait uses matcha from Morihan Tea Factory to create delicate foam and a fresh tea aroma.

Paired with sourdough-based open-faced sandwiches and refreshing salads, the flavors, like the sound, slowly build into a complete experience. It’s a way of life that can be felt and taken with you.
