Hand the most basic denim jacket in your closet to sacai, and it probably won’t stay basic for long. For their third collaboration, Chitose Abe brings her signature hybrid design back to the Levi’s universe. This time, there are no loud logos driving the partnership. Instead, she goes straight for the silhouette: stretching familiar denim jackets, ballooning the pant legs, and shuffling pockets, belts, and fabrics. Every piece still looks like Levi’s, but the wear is pure sacai.

A third collaboration pushing proportions even further

The new Levi’s × sacai collection spans 12 designs for men and women, built around four key items: the Sherpa Jacket, Blouson Jacket, Belted Wide Pants, and Belted Flare Pants. The color palette sticks to classic denim language, relying heavily on Rigid Indigo and Washed Indigo. What gets scaled up here is the silhouette.

The Sherpa Jacket splices together selvedge denim, faux sherpa, and leather pockets. The Blouson Jacket brings in sacai’s signature sleeve pocket, using cinched cuffs and a tight hem to puff the denim out into the three-dimensional bulk of a bomber jacket.

This year, are jeans really just the wider, the better?

The bottoms also refuse to play by traditional denim rules. The Belted Wide Pants take on a loose mid-rise cut that builds the belt right into the design. The Belted Flare Pants use an exaggerated flared shape layered with multiple pockets, ultimately forming a seven-pocket structure. Interestingly, these modifications don’t make the jeans hard to wear. Throw on a white shirt, a T-shirt, or a simple knit, and the proportions easily anchor the entire outfit.

sacai’s true strength is making the familiar feel entirely new

Chitose Abe has always been good at this. She doesn’t need to invent an entirely new type of clothing; she just pulls apart the pieces we already know and stitches them back together at unexpected angles. The biggest draw of this third Levi’s × sacai release might not be the collaboration label itself, but the lingering feeling you get after seeing it: that safe denim jacket sitting in your closet really is a bit too ordinary. The full collection officially launched on September 30.
