Finding the overlap between American casual style and Parisian minimalism through the 1960s
Gap and A.P.C. may come from different fashion cultures, yet they share a similar understanding of classic pieces. Gap has built a distinct American style around denim, khakis, Oxford shirts, and casualwear, while A.P.C. has become an essential name in minimalist wardrobes through its clean cuts, quality fabrics, and just the right touch of Parisian flair.
Drawing inspiration from 1960s film, music, and art, the collection brings the era’s effortlessly casual style into the present. Sailor stripes, Mod-inspired matching sets, corduroy, and sharp tailoring appear throughout. It retains A.P.C.’s familiar sense of restraint while taking on Gap’s relaxed, everyday feel.
Denim takes center stage, from Japanese fabric to ’90s low-rise cuts
Both brands have a fondness for denim, making it the natural focus of the G.A.P.C. collection. Some men’s denim jackets and relaxed straight-leg jeans are made with Japanese denim, while the women’s collection includes high-rise straight-leg jeans and loose, low-rise styles with a ’90s feel, all made from Gap’s classic 100% cotton rigid denim.
Natural-looking vintage washes, understated, lasting colors, and cuts that fit easily into everyday wear make these pieces feel as if they’ve been in your closet for years. The women’s denim jackets and sculpted outerwear also feature linings drawn from archival custom designs, with details worth taking in from the overall look to the finishing touches.
The G.A.P.C. logo is a playful detail, and the accessories are worth collecting too
Alongside denim, the collection includes fall and winter pieces such as Oxford shirts, knit cardigans, utility jackets, hoodies, and corduroy suits, with cashmere, wool, and corduroy adding texture and depth. The most interesting details are the geometric “G.A.P.C.” graphic combining the two names and designs that replace Gap’s classic arched logo with A.P.C. lettering, appearing on heavyweight hoodies, baseball caps, and bags. Accessories include a logo baseball cap for NT$ 1,999, plus a canvas tote, logo tote, and striped barrel bag for NT$ 2,699. With relatively accessible prices, they are likely to be popular pieces in the collection.
The Gap × A.P.C. collection launched in the United States and Canada on September 18, and will be available exclusively in Taiwan from October 2 at Gap’s Uni-President Department Store Taipei location, Nangang LaLaport store, and the official Gap Taiwan website. Members who purchase from the collaboration will also receive a limited G.A.P.C. shopping bag, while supplies last. If your fall wardrobe values simplicity, lasting appeal, and pieces you can wear again and again, it will probably be hard to choose just one item from this G.A.P.C. collaboration!
