At just 18, Sassa Ann van Wyk interned at the studio of legendary hat designer Philip Treacy. There, she worked with materials like feathers and felt and learned traditional millinery techniques. She later worked in Vienna’s opera and theater scene and collaborated with latex manufacturers in Paris before deciding to return to her own creative work and launch her namesake brand.

Moving away from soft, traditional ribbons, she turns the bow into a highly sculptural shape, using sweeping arcs and curled details to create the illusion of it floating in midair. From a dreamy pastel blue and vivid orange-red to color-blocked designs, every piece makes a strong statement. What’s more, these seemingly complicated pieces are designed with practical wear in mind, striking a balance between artistic flair and everyday styling.

For Sassa Ann van Wyk, headwear is more than just a finishing touch—it’s a way to express personal style. She once described putting a hat on someone as “crowning” them, and she hopes every piece will be cherished for a long time. Rooted in traditional millinery techniques and driven by wild imagination, she gives the familiar bow a completely new look, proving once again that fashion accessories can be highly creative works of art.
