The name Shuldo comes from the English word “shoulder,” reflecting the bag’s most natural and classic way of being carried. When it rests on one shoulder, the soft leather naturally drapes along the body, as if forming an intimate connection between bag and wearer – like a gentle embrace from leather: warm and sensual, yet still with a crisp sense of style. Compared with commuter bags defined by sharp lines and structured forms, Shuldo places greater emphasis on the sense of movement created as it moves with the body. Whether paired with a tailored suit, a simple knit, or a light dress, it lends the look an easy, relaxed elegance.

Shuldo appears to be naturally folded from a single piece of leather, yet its fluid silhouette is the result of more than a year of development and repeated prototyping. To give the bag both a structured shape and a soft feel, Polène continually adjusted the depth of the pleats, the proportions of the curves, and the bag’s volume, ensuring that every fold creates just the right amount of dimension when carried on the shoulder. The bag’s edges extend along the curves, disappearing into the body after folding over before reemerging at the other end to create a sculptural silhouette full of movement.

The seemingly continuous folded detail combines three different construction techniques: the main body retains raw-cut edges, the ends of the folds are defined with hidden stitching, and reverse stitching completes the finish, revealing subtle layers beneath the clean exterior.

Extensive pleating means the leather must be soft enough while also retaining its shape over time. Each Shuldo bag is therefore made from 33 carefully selected pieces of leather, joined and folded in different areas to balance suppleness with structure. Once assembled, the bag’s edges are hand-painted one by one. From the handle to the folded sections, artisans must carefully apply color along every undulating curve to keep the lines clean and fluid. The handle is reinforced with eight rows of hand stitching and paired with a metal clasp engraved with the Polène logo, lending the understated design a recognizable brand signature.

Shuldo’s first release comes in seven colors: classic black, understated ebony, rich black cherry, warm brown, soft mist gray, and pale yellow and green for a more spring-summer feel. For a versatile, practical option, choose black or brown. If you prefer understated colors with personality, black cherry and ebony are especially easy on the eyes. Pale yellow and green, meanwhile, make just the right visual accent in a simple outfit.

Photographer Rebekka Deubner shot the campaign, presenting Shuldo’s different personalities through a series of dynamic silhouettes. The model is at times resolute, at times dreamy, and can also be relaxed or bold. Presented as diptychs, the images create contrasts in scale, movement, and detail, letting the eye move between the bag’s silhouette, the texture of the leather, and the wearer’s posture.

Shuldo not only continues Polène’s sculptural approach to leather, but also translates its fine craftsmanship into a freer design that feels closer to everyday life. Rather than deliberately pursuing perfect order, it lets pleats, curves, and the body meet naturally, revealing a different silhouette each time it is carried on the shoulder.
