Is Wonyoung Jang’s glass-skin glow really from drinking it? Korea’s viral Olle Shot olive oil and lemon juice ratio revealed — does this “detox miracle drink” actually work?
Are you caught up in this craze too?
If you’ve been following Korean variety shows or Korean celebrities’ personal lives lately, you’ve probably noticed that their morning routines have become more intentional. This “Olle Shot” (olive oil mixed with lemon juice), popularized by models, is seen as the secret to glowing skin and gut health. It may sound oily, but the nutritional logic behind it is that healthy fats and antioxidants can help kick-start the body’s metabolism.

Why can olive oil and lemon juice make your skin glow?
Extra-virgin olive oil contains more than 70% monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid) and vitamin E, natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. When paired with fresh, vitamin C-rich lemon juice, they work together to help the body fight free radicals.

With continued use, the most noticeable changes usually come from adjustments “from the inside out”: fats help the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins and may improve dull skin caused by chronic inflammation or uneven nutrient absorption. While it can’t completely replace a serum, it can provide a healthy foundation for the body.
When is the best time to drink olive oil and lemon juice?
Many people recommend drinking it on an empty stomach to “wake up the digestive system,” as fats can stimulate the gallbladder to release bile and help lubricate the intestines. For people struggling with constipation, it can have an effect similar to a natural “laxative.” As retained stool is cleared and bloating subsides, the stomach naturally looks flatter.
Although absorption is faster on an empty stomach, people with sensitive stomachs are advised to drink it after breakfast or with a meal. This lets you get the nutrients while avoiding direct irritation to the stomach lining from concentrated fruit acids and oil.
Olive oil and lemon juice ratios and ingredient selection tips
For a homemade version, aim for a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of oil to lemon juice. Ingredient quality matters even more: choose olive oil labeled Extra Virgin with an acidity level below 0.8%; it usually has a light herbal aroma. Organic lemons are also recommended.
After drinking it, be sure to drink an additional 200-300 ml of warm water. This helps the oil move through the intestines and dilutes any acidity left in the mouth and esophagus.

What are the contraindications and side effects of olive oil and lemon juice?
Despite its many benefits, this method isn’t suitable for everyone. Because olive oil stimulates the gallbladder to contract and release bile, drinking oil on an empty stomach may cause severe abdominal pain if you have a history of gallstones, and may even cause a stone to become lodged in the bile duct. Lemons are also highly acidic, so drinking this on an empty stomach may irritate the esophageal lining in people with stomach ulcers or severe acid reflux.
If you’re trying it for the first time, start with a small amount and watch for cold sweats or excessive diarrhea. Olive oil is also high in calories (about 90 calories per 10 ml), so if you’re trying to lose weight, remember to include these calories in your total daily intake.
