Most people probably still think of Ahn Hyo-seop in cool, handsome urban-professional roles. In “Love at First Sight,” though, he plays Matthew Lee, a fine young man who lives in Deokpung Village. What sets him apart is that he’s a farmer with three jobs, handling farming, ingredient development, and farm management. He has exceptionally high standards for his work and is a true perfectionist, sometimes even coming across as a little picky. Yet to the village elders, he’s a helpful young man, and they’ve even given him the affectionate nickname “Quail” (Mechoori).
When an insomniac shopping expert meets a country boy
The most heart-fluttering part of this drama is the contrast between its two leads. Rising actress Chae Won-bin stars as Tan Ye-jin, a successful top host on a home shopping channel who suffers from severe insomnia behind her glamorous exterior. When this career woman, accustomed to the fast-paced, high-pressure city life, meets a country boy who spends his days working amid nature, the unexpected love story between them is sure to be one of the season’s most healing draws. The stills released by the production show that Ahn Hyo-seop really threw himself into this drama. Whether growing mushrooms in a greenhouse, helping villagers remove dangerous beehives, or making kimchi for the winter, he does it all himself. Most interestingly, Ahn Hyo-seop even learned to drive a cultivator to portray Matthew Lee perfectly! He said with a laugh in an interview that driving one is a lot of fun. Since there are many scenes in which he drives the veteran actors around, he prepared seriously and even cared for the cultivator as if it were his own car. It’s hard not to become a fan of such dedication and charm.
