Tai Hang, a quiet little neighborhood, has recently been quietly transforming into a huge open-air art museum. No need to fly abroad: wander among century-old houses and prewar tenement buildings to see world-class art all in one go. It’s the perfect plan for this weekend.

ArtHouse Tai Hang 2026 – Tai Hang Arts Festival

Founded by curator Ho Sin Hang, this contemporary arts festival breaks free from the traditional white-cube gallery model by bringing art directly into the neighborhood. Across Tai Hang, 10 exhibition spaces are scattered through side streets and narrow alleys people might normally rush past. Strolling as you hunt for art is itself a poetic way to experience everyday life.

As you wander streets where century-old homes stand alongside prewar tenement buildings, surprises await around every corner. Instead of the crowds at a large gallery, the festival invites you to slow down and explore. Pick up a map at the visitor center at 98 Tung Lo Wan Road in Causeway Bay, then take your time discovering works by more than 50 local and international artists.

4 local and international contemporary artists to see

The artist lineup is strong, spanning a range of styles and mediums. To help guide your visit, here are four much-talked-about artists to look out for.

Hung Fai: A Hong Kong contemporary ink artist whose work is held in the collections of M+ and the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The exhibition includes a special collaborative-art component, where registered participants can leave their own brushstrokes on his work and take part in a collective creation.

Jason Ho: A young local artist who has lived in Tai Hang for many years. His work precisely captures the warmth of the neighborhood’s architecture and social fabric, with a strong sense of Hong Kong identity.

Tomohiro Takahashi: A hugely popular Japanese artist known for his collaboration with the classic digital pet game Neopets. His paintings are full of childlike fun and energy.

Antone Konst: A talented artist from Brooklyn who skillfully brings together everyday imagery and Eastern philosophy. His visual style is distinctive and thought-provoking.
