This distinctive treehouse office is located on Geschwister-Scholl-Straße in Weimar, Germany, on the campus of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. When the new space opened, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar President Peter Benz also attended in person, officially making this seemingly childlike treehouse oppositeoffice’s new base of operations.

Though it may look like a fun architectural experiment from the outside, this treehouse was far from casually built. The team worked with structural design staff at Bauhaus University to carefully calculate its structure, applying adequate safety factors and a comprehensive risk assessment. This ensured it met physical safety requirements, complied with administrative regulations, and could truly serve as an office for everyday use.

Most interestingly, oppositeoffice said when introducing its new office that, in addition to visitors and clients, it also hopes to welcome “more-than-human beings” in the future, allowing birds, insects, and other living creatures to become neighbors of the treehouse. Compared with a traditional office, this new address hidden among the treetops also seems to reimagine the relationship between workspaces and nature.
