Large numbers of new stars continually form within this ring-shaped structure, creating its highly recognizable swirling appearance. Beyond its beautiful exterior, it has also drawn attention for dark matter research.

Along with these new visuals, NASA has continued to advance its Sonification project in recent years, aiming to transform astronomical observation data that could previously only be seen into a listening experience. Rather than recording sounds from space directly, the project translates raw data collected by telescopes into music. For example, light at different wavelengths and frequencies is mapped to different pitches and timbres, while a light source’s brightness is translated into volume. As the scan moves across the image, stars, nebulae, and galaxies intertwine to form a unique melody.
