Post-workout recovery can be this avant-garde, too. Swiss sports brand On has teamed up with experimental singer and dancer FKA twigs on a new project called “Unwind.” Rather than focusing on faster, stronger athletic performance, the pair turn to rest, something often overlooked after exercise. Centered on the idea of a Kinetic Sound Bath, the project combines bodily movement, tactile materials, and sound to reimagine moments of physical recovery.
In “Unwind,” FKA twigs and the dancers perform a series of movements designed for relaxation and recovery, allowing their bodies to slowly stretch, pause, and move. The performers also interact with materials including coal, pebbles, and paper, with the subtle sounds created through rubbing, collision, and touch becoming part of the performance.

The sounds generated in real time through these movements are projected throughout the space via a custom-built 54-channel spatial audio system, creating a three-dimensional soundscape around the body. The audience doesn’t simply “listen” to a performance; they are surrounded by sound from every direction, experiencing the connections between body, materials, and space.

Unlike traditional sound baths, which involve listening while still, “Unwind” incorporates the body’s rhythm, making movement itself part of the sound and recovery. For FKA twigs, who has long excelled at bringing together music, dance, and visual art, this kind of cross-disciplinary collaboration seems especially fitting. On also uses the project to extend its familiar idea of “Movement” from athletic performance to recovery, making rest more than simply stopping movement: it becomes another way of feeling the body.
