The world’s second Sphere is coming! Next stop Abu Dhabi, set to debut in 2029
So exciting!
In 2023, a glowing sphere that could transform into Earth, the moon, a giant eyeball, and even emojis suddenly appeared on the Las Vegas skyline, quickly becoming one of the world’s most watched architectural landmarks. Now, Sphere Entertainment has officially announced its first venue outside the United States: the world’s second Sphere, set to open on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Sphere Entertainment recently announced its first overseas expansion project. The new venue is set to arrive on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s landmark entertainment and resort destination, between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. The well-known man-made island is home to numerous major attractions and hosts the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With Sphere’s arrival, the island’s entertainment offerings are set to expand once again.
The giant LED exterior will also become a canvas for Emirati artists

Sphere’s most striking feature is its signature spherical exterior, the “Exosphere,” which envelops the entire building. In Las Vegas, its exterior is covered in vast LED screens that can display Earth, starry skies, art visuals, and large-scale advertisements, turning the building itself into an ever-changing public visual artwork. The Abu Dhabi Sphere is expected to follow similar specifications, with capacity for around 20,000 people. Inside, wraparound screens and a high-end sound system will create an immersive experience that fully surrounds visitors with visuals, sound, and space.

In addition to bringing Sphere’s signature technology and entertainment experiences to Abu Dhabi, the venue will incorporate local culture. Its giant LED exterior is expected to display works by Emirati artists, allowing the building to do more than replicate Las Vegas’s successful model by using imagery to showcase local art, culture, and the city’s character. This also marks Sphere’s first official move beyond the U.S. market. Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan said Abu Dhabi is only the first step in its global expansion. The brand hopes to establish a network of Spheres in different cities, making the glowing orb a global symbol of next-generation entertainment architecture.
