A new chapter of space inspired by a harbor
Hermès fans have another new landmark to visit in Kaohsiung. First opened in 1996, the Hermès Kaohsiung Hanshin store reopened on August 5, 2026, following an expansion and renovation. Spanning two floors, the store was designed by RDAI, Hermès’ longtime Paris-based architectural partner, and incorporates Kaohsiung’s harbor scenery, urban architecture, and local materials. From ocean blue to sunset orange, the colors make stepping inside feel like a journey through the port city’s shifting light.

From brick walls to a container-inspired staircase, every detail evokes Kaohsiung
Brick elements connect the store’s facade and interior, with three-dimensional surfaces in alternating shades that shift with the light to create different layers. As you enter, Hermès’ signature Faubourg mosaic floor tiles and ex-libris bookplate motif are the first things to catch your eye, while silk scarves and fashion jewelry are displayed in a warm, rust-colored setting.
Further along, the leather goods area features sculpted wooden walls with flowing lines and soft contours. The jewelry and watch section is tucked between finely textured walls, creating a quiet, private atmosphere for viewing the pieces. At the center of the space, a fragrance area is defined by bold colors, while an oak staircase inspired by shipping containers at the port echoes one of Kaohsiung’s most distinctive city images.
Ocean blue meets sunset orange: a day in the port city
Down the staircase on the lower level, the space shifts to ocean blues and earthy tones, paired with surfaces that have the feel of natural minerals. Womenswear, women’s shoes, menswear, home, and equestrian collections unfold in sequence, allowing distinct worlds of craftsmanship to connect naturally along the open layout. The most evocative detail is the custom-made carpet. Its colors gradually transition from ocean blues in varying depths to warm sunset orange, as though the views of Kaohsiung Port from day to dusk had been spread beneath your feet. Refined furniture is interwoven with raw, rustic textures, giving the space Hermès’ elegance while retaining a distinct local character.
Beyond the interior design, the new store also displays works from the Émile Hermès Collection and the Hermès Contemporary Photography Collection. French photographic artist Aurore Bagarry documents rocks along England’s Cornwall coast that have been eroded by seawater over many years. Colombian artist Francisca G. Pinzón’s abstract painting “Warm Grey 2” uses delicate color contrasts to echo the store’s materials and light.
