Drawing has always been an important medium throughout the house’s long history. Remember the beloved Chaîne d’ancre anchor-chain bracelet? Robert Dumas, a fourth-generation member of the Hermès family, was simply strolling along the docks of Normandy when inspiration struck. He quickly sketched his idea in a notebook, and the motif has since become one of the brand’s classic emblems.
As artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas puts it: “Drawing tells stories, and lines are the sentences that convey meaning.” Here, drawing is the magic that drives three-dimensional creation.
A pop-up drawing studio and creative experiences
As visitors enter the atrium in the Metal Zone at ELEMENTS, they are first greeted by the lively Hermès drawing ambassador, the Pencil Rider. Centered around a pop-up drawing studio, the event space is equipped with easels and a range of art materials, inviting everyone to create freely without the constraints of academic conventions.
Whether or not you usually draw, you can try life-size drawing, spontaneous sketching, collage, and stamp art. Copies of Le Monde d’Hermès, the house magazine first published in 1973, are also available on-site, so visitors can explore the stories behind the annual themes and craft collections while expressing their creativity.
