Japanese streetwear label Needles
For those unfamiliar with Needles, the Japanese label is led by fashion icon Keizo Shimizu and has become a favorite in streetwear circles in recent years. Style stars including A$AP ROCKY and Travis Scott have been eager to wear it, and its pieces are a common sight on the streets of Japan. Founded in 1997, Needles takes a different approach from conventional vintage labels built around reproductions. Guided by its “Rebuild & Reuse” philosophy, the brand takes apart classic elements of American workwear, sportswear, and military clothing from the 1970s through the 1990s, then reworks them with Japanese artisan craftsmanship to create its distinct “New Vintage” aesthetic.

The brand’s most recognizable signature is its delicate butterfly embroidery, inspired by the chest tattoo of Steve McQueen’s character in the film “Papillon.” Often stitched onto track pants, jackets, and other pieces, it has become an instantly recognizable motif. Needles’ classic butterfly-embroidered track pants, in particular, pair comfort with thoughtful design and remain a sought-after favorite among streetwear fans.
