The North Face has exclusive sub-lines in many places, especially Japan, a popular travel destination. Now, alongside Purple Label, there’s a new line to watch: General Athletic Recreation, or GAR for short.
Inspired by trail running, The North Face GAR centers on functional, lightweight apparel designed to support runners over long periods in changing terrain and temperatures. Performance and minimalist design are key, making layering feel less burdensome and freeing wearers from heavy, restrictive clothing. Pieces such as rain jackets and outerwear use a range of high-tech fabrics for waterproof breathability, wind protection, and UV resistance. As a result, GAR has drawn attention not only from trail runners but also from city dwellers.
The outfits in the General Athletic Recreation lookbook show that this line is suited not only to the outdoors but also to mixing with everyday pieces, making it convenient for modern lifestyles that call for multiple outfit changes in a day. Along with activewear, the items revealed so far include shirts, T-shirts, knit tops, vests, and long skirts. The line now has an official website and is expected to arrive at stores across Japan gradually starting in February, so those interested can keep an eye out.
