TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan: Taipei has one more beautiful place to visit, from bookstore and lifestyle goods to exhibitions all in one stop
POPBEE has rounded up the highlights for you!
Taipei’s Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is about to welcome a new cultural landmark. TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE, which has been established in Taiwan for 14 years, has announced that its new TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan location will officially open on May 16, 2026. Set in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, a place rich in history and creative energy, it will add another multifaceted space to Taipei that brings together reading, design, art, and everyday life. It is also seen as an important new starting point for connecting Taiwanese and Japanese culture and helping local creators reach international audiences.
More than a bookstore: A testing ground for bringing Taiwanese culture to the world
Rather than a traditional bookstore, TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan is more like an upgrade to the city’s cultural infrastructure. CCC and Taiwan Tsutaya hope to create a space where creators, brands, businesses, and consumers can connect naturally through books, selected goods, art curation, exhibitions and performances, and shared spaces. Given the realities of Taiwan’s limited market size, many talented creators have great potential but lack a long-term mechanism for connecting with international markets. Songyan was created to address that challenge. Through TSUTAYA’s network of around 700 stores in Japan, it will also become an important gateway for Taiwanese culture, brands, and creators to enter the Japanese and global markets.
Songshan Cultural and Creative Park was originally a tobacco factory. Following its revitalization, it became one of Taiwan’s most representative cultural and creative hubs, attracting more than 10 million visitors each year. With the arrival of TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan, the historic building’s cultural atmosphere will continue while introducing a spatial concept better suited to contemporary lifestyles, making the bookstore a multifaceted space for reading, aesthetics, creativity, and socializing.
Store Highlights at a Glance
TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan offers more than books and selected goods, extending its space into a cultural hub that feels closer to everyday urban life. Its SHARE LOUNGE combines a cafe with coworking and social spaces, where visitors can work, read, hold meetings, or simply pause to gather their thoughts. The store also has a lounge with around 80 seats and a flexible event space that can accommodate up to 150 people. In the future, it will host a range of events spanning art, design, fashion, and culture, making the bookstore a place for people to meet and connect naturally.
TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan has also teamed up with ASUS on a cross-industry collaboration, introducing a 162-inch microLED display. Its more detailed imaging technology will support exhibitions, video, and event presentations, making cultural experiences beyond reading feel more immersive and futuristic.
Focusing on Taiwanese Creators, Building a New Platform for Taiwan-Japan Cultural Exchange
TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan will also continue to introduce dedicated areas for Taiwanese creators and cross-border collaboration projects. At launch, brands including Bitter Melon Weaving, VERDE, and Studio UNTO will join the store, alongside an exhibition created in collaboration between Taiwanese artist C JEAN Chien Chun-yuan and a Kyoto workshop, as well as a custom noren curtain by WHOSMiNG. From brand selections and art curation to cultural outreach, Songyan is more like a long-term project to formally bring Taiwan’s creativity to international markets.
The arrival of TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Songyan redefines the future of cultural life in Taipei. By bringing reading, design, art, creativity, and international exchange together in one space, it is more than a place to shop; it is a new starting point for Taiwanese culture to engage with the world. For those drawn to lifestyle, aesthetic experiences, and cultural exploration, Songyan is sure to become one of Taipei’s most worthwhile new destinations after May 16.
