Netflix has another new variety show that you’ll want to watch! Singer Car, the garden, DAY6’s Dowoon, actor Lee Chae-min, and ALLDAY PROJECT member Tarzzan may seem to have nothing in common, yet they unexpectedly come together as the “Descent Mountaineering Club” for their first real snow mountain climbing trip. Why Do You Climb a Mountain? premieres on August 18, and this fresh lineup alone has us looking forward to it.
The four have little experience with variety shows, yet rather than starting with an easy trip, they jump straight into an intense mountaineering challenge. Setting off in the dark before dawn, facing the cold and the limits of their stamina, then reaching snow-covered summits, each climb is a new experience for them. Car, the garden and Dowoon even revealed that they were so exhausted during filming that they considered quitting the show, making us even more curious about just how grueling it was.
From strangers to “comrades-in-arms”

More than reaching the summit itself, the rapport the four gradually build may be the show’s most interesting part. Lee Chae-min shared that after climbing together time and again, the members went from strangers to becoming familiar with one another, developing a bond like that of “comrades-in-arms.” Producer Na was also drawn to the fresh appeal of these four, so unlike previous variety show guests, and looks forward to seeing what new variety-show chemistry this unexpected combination will create.
