Recently, the classic British brand that invented the lava lamp, Mathmos, announced a surprising collaboration: they teamed up with Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis, who is known for her masterful work with light and color, to give the brand’s iconic Astro lava lamp a fresh new look.
Soft bubblegum pink
The palette alone makes this collaborative Bubblegum Astro version hard to resist. Sabine Marcelis brought her signature soft tones to the design, pairing a pure white base with a clear, warm bubblegum pink. This colorway actually takes inspiration from her massive Column lava lamp, which is currently featured in her solo exhibition at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
Each collaborative Astro lava lamp is handcrafted by Mathmos in the UK, retaining the classic silhouette first introduced in 1963. Reimagined through Sabine Marcelis’s lens, the slow-moving pink lava inside makes it truly impossible to look away.
Limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide
