This summer, Janu Tokyo in Azabudai Hills welcomes 10 unexpected “travelers.” From July 1 to September 30, 2026, the signature PAPER PEOPLE figures by internationally renowned French artist Jean Jullien will take up residence in this serene oasis of contemporary design as part of the exhibition The GUESTS.

Where are these fragile, lightweight paper travelers hiding?
These 10 brightly colored, flat paper figures have quite a history. The PAPER PEOPLE series debuted at Shibuya PARCO in Tokyo in 2021, then traveled to Nantes, Paris, Seoul, and beyond before finally returning to the city where it began. This time, rather than staying quietly in a museum, they are treated as “guests” of the hotel.
Nine works are scattered throughout Janu Tokyo’s lively social spaces. You may spot them at Janu Grill, taking in the view of Tokyo Tower alongside you, or relaxing poolside at the 4,000-square-meter Janu Wellness Centre. The mysterious 10th paper figure is an exclusive surprise for hotel guests.
A striking contrast between humor and space
The paper figures in this exhibition were carefully crafted by AD Japan using Pyrex. This highly malleable material retains paper’s delicate, lightweight appearance.
In this luxurious space by Aman’s sister brand, defined by its contemporary design language, these subtly humorous characters are especially eye-catching. As Jean Jullien describes them, they are fragile and lightweight, like passersby hurrying past. Their presence creates a striking, playful contrast with the orderly architecture, adding a touch of French whimsy to the otherwise tranquil luxury hotel.
A limited-time stay package and exclusive sweet treats
For those who want to fully immerse themselves in this wonderful creative world, the Hide and Seek stay package, available during the exhibition, is worth a look. A two-night stay includes a special gift from the artist and original collaboration cookies from Janu Patisserie.
