An inflatable chair makes a comeback? The IKEA PS 2026 collection brings lots of fun and cute furniture designs

The design world’s major annual event, the 2026 Milan Design Week, is now in full swing, with the entire city discussing the many possibilities of “future living.” Riding this momentum, IKEA is making a high-profile return with the 10th installment of its PS 2026 collection. The first three standout pieces alone have already made plenty of furniture lovers stop and take a closer look.

If you remember the IKEA PS collection, you’d probably agree that it has always been the brand’s least “IKEA-like” line. It’s like a testing ground for designers, turning ideas still at the margins into objects that ordinary people can bring home. This season’s biggest surprise, though, is IKEA bringing back the inflatable chair once labeled its “most disastrous design”!

This shift is quite interesting. In a way, it responds to today’s expectations of “affordable design,” which go beyond whether something is inexpensive or good-looking to ask whether it can be more durable and sustainable. This new inflatable chair is a fresh interpretation of that change. Rather than the all-plastic, slightly toy-like furniture piece people may remember, it features a carbon steel frame and an emerald-green fabric cover, giving it a noticeably more polished feel.

Interestingly, it hasn’t abandoned the idea of being inflatable. Instead, its internal air chambers have been made more stable, addressing the former issues of sagging and insufficient support. The outer fabric has also been improved to reduce slipping and noise, making it feel more like a conventional cushioned chair to sit in. Its price has been greatly reduced while retaining its lightweight, easy-to-move qualities, making it especially renter-friendly.
