Disney+ April lineup: IU’s new drama “21st Century Crown Princess” is a must-watch, plus Park Bo-young turns into a villain

Not sure what to watch in April? Disney+ has plenty of surprises in its all-new April 2026 lineup, from the dream pairing of IU and Byeon Woo-seok in the Korean drama “21st Century Crown Princess,” premiering April 10, to the suspense series “Gold Land,” starring Park Bo-young, on April 29. The Hong Kong Film Awards-nominated “Someone Like Me” also arrives on April 17, so there’s no chance of a boring weekend this month.

“21st Century Crown Princess” Perfect Crown

IU takes on her first commanding female CEO role, entering into a royal contract marriage with Byeon Woo-seok.Set in a 21st-century Korean constitutional monarchy where tradition and modernity intertwine, the series stars IU as Seong Hee-ju, a talented chaebol heir and CEO who isn’t respected because of her commoner background. To take control of her own fate, she pursues the aloof second prince, Lee Wan, played by Byeon Woo-seok, and the two enter into a marriage pact for the ages. Combining romantic-comedy and royal elements, this series asks whether it can break through social barriers and is sure to be one of the season’s most talked-about shows.

“Gold Land”

Park Bo-young breaks away from her sweet image as she gets caught up in a battle over gold.Fans of crime mysteries and thrillers won’t want to miss this Korean series. Park Bo-young plays Hee-ju, who accidentally comes into possession of gold bars from a smuggling ring and is forced into a chaotic world filled with greed and betrayal. As those around her kill one another over the gold and humanity’s darker side emerges, she too ignites a desperate fight for survival.

“Someone Like Me”

Release date: April 17

A tearjerker up for Best Actor and Best Actress at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards.Lovie Lou plays Ah Mui, who was born with cerebral palsy. On a friend’s recommendation, she meets Ken, played by Carlos Chan, a volunteer with an organization that provides sexual services to people with disabilities. The meeting of these two wounded souls comforts them both while loosening the ties between morality and the body. The editor strongly recommends having tissues ready: the lead actors’ performances really will bring you to tears.

“The Testaments”

Release date: April 8

A follow-up to the hit American series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” following young girls as they resist totalitarian rule.The story centers on two girls, Agnes and Daisy, who enter a preparatory academy established to train future wives. In this place, where obedience is instilled through cruel methods, their friendship becomes a catalyst for overturning Gilead’s future, completely upending their past, present, and future.

“Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord”

Release date: April 6

A new sci-fi animated series Star Wars fans won’t want to miss.Set after “The Clone Wars,” the story follows Maul as he plots to rebuild his criminal empire on a planet not yet invaded by the Empire. There, he meets a young Jedi apprentice who has lost faith and embarks on an endless path of revenge. A galaxy-wide war of vengeance is about to erupt, and the action scenes are sure to be spectacular.
