POPBEE Reader Survey | No More Sightseeing in a Rush! Finding the Real Reason Travel Is Addictive in Our Readers' Holiday Routines
Leaving crowded spots behind, this is how we spend our holidays now!
Summary
- 62.7% of readers are easily inspired to book flights by high-quality short videos, with Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan holding firm as top destination choices at 60%.
- Budgets generally land between HK$ 5,001 and HK$ 15,000 (64.5%), with a preference for investing in experiential details like boutique stays and local dining.
- Itinerary styles show a split: 47.3% prefer going with the flow, while 42.7% insist on planning everything thoroughly in advance.
- Nearly half (49.1%) find overcrowded attractions the most exhausting part of travel, shifting the main goals of trips toward ultimate relaxation (34.5%) and discovering new spots for inspiration (29.1%).
Have you ever had a moment like this? Curled up on the couch late at night scrolling through your phone, a short video with soft tones pops up: sunlight spilling over a wooden windowsill, steam rising from a small corner cafe. The clip lasts barely ten seconds, yet you subconsciously switch over to a flight comparison site. In our recent survey of 110 readers, this shared experience is more common than you might think.
A full 62.7% of readers confessed that aesthetic photos and short Reels on social media are what instantly inspire them to book a flight on impulse. By contrast, word of mouth from friends (16.4%) and long-form travel blogs (15.5%) have become secondary references. When choosing destinations, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan comfortably secured the top spot with 60% of the vote.
When choosing flight destinations, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan or Hong Kong still took the top spot with an overwhelming 60% of the vote. For fast-paced POPBEE readers, these East Asian cities offer reasonable flight times alongside rich food and shopping options, making them the most reliable escape whenever you need a quick break. Meanwhile, Southeast Asian resorts for pure sunshine and beaches (16.4%), and Europe and the UK for their exotic architecture and cultural depth (15.5%), are also destinations where many have already booked their next flights.
Spending your budget on the details you love
Discussing budgets for each getaway, everyone shows a surprisingly rational consensus. 64.5% of readers cap their single-trip budget between HK$ 5,001 and HK$ 15,000, while 20.9% opt for the accessible luxury range of HK$ 15,001 to HK$ 30,000. Rather than endlessly chasing lavish displays, women today prefer putting their spending toward specific small things that bring a sense of happiness: perhaps choosing a design-focused hotel with excellent natural light, or making a special trip to eat at a long-awaited local restaurant.
Interestingly, on the topic of itinerary planning, readers show a rather harmonious polarization:
- The go-with-the-flow crowd (47.3%): Only booking flights and hotels in advance, then letting the day’s mood and weather completely dictate the schedule after arriving.
- The fully prepared crowd (42.7%): Having to do all the research before setting off, arranging precise daily routes and backup plans, finding joy in a sense of security.
Whether leaving surprises to the unknown or enjoying the grounded feeling of mastering the details, everyone reclaims their rhythm of life on vacation in their own way.
Fearing crowded attractions most, today’s trips are all about relaxing and exploring local shops
The most relatable part of this survey is probably the consensus on travel pain points. Nearly half (49.1%) of readers agree that the most draining aspect of a trip is overcrowded attractions. Finally arriving at a desired destination, only to be greeted by endless lines and noisy crowds, often makes the anticipated relaxing atmosphere instantly vanish. Other headaches include high flight prices (23.6%) and travel companions with clashing paces (14.5%).
Because of this, the irreplaceable soul of travel has quietly shifted. A high 34.5% feel the most important part of a vacation is pure relaxation, followed by wandering through streets for shopping and exploring stores (29.1%), and absorbing culture and inspiration (28.2%). No longer obsessing over checking off tourist sights from a map, even just finding a quiet boutique to spend half the day in, or quietly finishing a book in a hotel room, is enough to recharge a spirit drained by daily life and make the trip worthwhile.
Regarding travel companions, traveling as a pair (42.7%) and family trips (28.2%) remain the mainstream, but solo departures for me-time (14.5%) and getaways with best friends (14.5%) also hold a loyal following. Beyond taking care of daily roles, having a period of time where you are only responsible to yourself or close friends is perhaps the most precious gift travel brings us.
